Every Notre Dame High student is encouraged to be involved in the life of the school. Participation in school clubs assists in building relationships, values and character right now. However, community involvement is also a component of virtually every scholarship application. Showing involvement in the school and commitment to the school community will serve students well when they begin to apply for various scholarships.
Here are the school clubs which students can become involved with.
This is a group of students interested in helping students to make fun memories of their time at ENDHS and dedicated to working with staff members to make ENDHS a great school. Students' Union consists of executive positions (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Communications, Activities) as well a non-executive positions (grade reps and members at large). Some of the key activities hosted by the Students' Union are: three dances per year, monthly spirit activities, two pep rallies per year. Students' Union also helps to run the school concession and the money raised goes to support school athletics and school clubs. Students' Union members meet every second Wednesday at lunch time. All students are welcome to attend our meetings.
Student's Against Drinking and Driving is an organization which centers on empowering youth to make positive choices. SADD meets Thursday every other week and works to raise awareness of the issue of drinking and driving. A guest speaker is brought in annually to speak to the whole student body about this issue.
The Young Adopters is the longest running club in the school. NDHS is also the longest running school sponsor of Plan International in all of Alberta. The TYA sponsors five children from underdeveloped nations in the third world. Our biggest fundraiser takes place at Thanksgiving with the annual penny race. Other fundraisers include pizza sales and various other noon hour activities. Meetings take place regularly at noon hour on Mondays.
The Justice League is a group of students who want to work toward social justice in the world. They meet every two weeks and discuss local and global issues, keep the rest of the student body informed and work to keep our school focused on what we can do to make a difference - starting with something as simple as recycling. The Justice League also raises awareness of, and money for, the support of the Development and Peace campaigns as well as the Mexican family which our school sponsors. All are welcome to attend our meetings and become involved with the Justice League.
The Impressionists Art Club was formed to give students an opportunity to work on art projects outside of class, or for those students unable to take Art Class. Typically we meet once a week.
As yet, there has not been enough student interest to form a Drama Club. If anyone wants to start one, please contact Miss Goulden.
Yearbook is a group of students, and a teacher Advisor that work together to capture the memories of high school into one book. Students are need to take photos, to build and edit pages. Anyone is able to join this school club, talk to Ms. Burkholder if you're interested in helping.
This is a group of high school students who volunteer to assist the grade 9 students with their transition into the school. Their role begins with the grade 8 orientation afternoon which is usually held in May and their busy time in the month of September. Ambassadors are linked with three grade 9 students and meet with them once a week to discuss certain aspects of the school and to answer questions they may have. Although the formal meeting stop at the end of September, their role of being a good representative of the school continues throughout the year. Ambassadors sign up in June, review the program over the summer and return to school ready to lead the grade 9 students. Anyone interested in being an Ambassador simply needs to speak with the principal.
