Trad'abour is a fine arts presentation in French that will be enoyed by both the Immersion students and the grade 4 FSL students. The group will be with us for the whole afternoon, please feel free to drop by to catch part of the performance. Trad'abour will enhance both the fine arts and Immersion goals of the school. Thank-you to our local CPF (Canadian Parents For French) who were able to help finance this presentation. If you are a parent of a French Immersion students and would like to join the CPF, please contact Robyn Reddecliff at the school. CPF meets once a month to talk about ways they as parents can support the Immersion program in the school. CPF members do not need to know how to speak French! In fact, English speaking parents of Immersion students find belonging to the CPF is an excellent way to connect with other English speaking parents of Immersion students. Ideas such as how to support your child's learning at home are often shared between members.
This week Mrs. Hanson will be challenging students to raise money for one of our families that lost their trailer and everything they own to a fire.
"Color the Ribbon Pink" Lenten Fundraiser. We will kick off our Lenten Fundraiser on Thursday at our MIP assembly. Bev Brace from the Bonnyville Cancer Clinic will be doing a presentation to students on about the cancer clinic and why it is important to our community. Starting Monday, March 8 we will be raising money for the cancer clinic until Good Friday. We have a poster with a big, white ribbon on it that starts at $0 and goes to $1500. The challenge is for all classes in the school to raise $100. Every Thursday we will count up the money and color the ribbon pink to track how much we have raised so far. Our goal is to color the whole ribbon pink by Holy Thursday. It is the responsible of classrooms to decide how they will raise the money. All classes will accept straight donations from students at any time. Classes may also do activies such as $1 pajama days, $1 popcorn and movie days, bake sales, etc. Students would be encouraged to bring $1 on these days. If a child was unable to bring money, they would still be able to fully participate in whatever event is planned. We understand that school fundraisers can put a financial strain of some families, especially if you have a number of children in our school. If sending a dime or a quarter instead of a loonie works better, please do not hesitate to do this. Lastly, all parents are asked not to just hand over money to their children to donate. Lent is an important time of year to teach children to help others who are less fortunate then them. This is not only a teaching of the Catholic Church but it is also a critical 21st century skill that students will need in order to successful in a global society. Having your child earn the money will help deepen this experience for them. They can do extra chores, help neighbours (shovel snow, rake - depends what kind of weather we get in March) or give up a treat (ice cream on the grocery list, popcorn at the movies, etc.) The money that is saved by not buying the treat can then be donated. A separate donation jar will be kept in the office for adults to donate. This money will not be included in the total for painting the ribbon but will be included in our final total at the end of March.
