Holy Cross Library is one happening place. We have three book fairs each year, host author visits, display student artwork and story-writing, as well as act as a meeting place for the school's Drama Club. Check this page often to see what's coming up at the library.
May
Join us for a Scholastic "Buy One, Get One FREE" book fair on May 24th from 8:30am to 4:00pm. That's right - if you select an item of equal or lesser value, you'll get it FREE! For ONE DAY ONLY. Build up your home library for the summer.
April
Surprise Virtual Author Visit with Arthur Slade
When a student asked me a few questions about Mr. Slade's steampunk series, The Hunchback Assignments, I contacted Mr. Slade (unbeknownst to the student) to see if he'd be willing to drop in via Skype and answer a few questions. Due to a snow day, the timing didn't work, however, Mr. Slade was kind enough to record a personal message which I then shared with several classes. Rhys was certainly surprised. ;) Go
HERE to see a short film of Mr. Slade's visit.

New this year: The Cold Lake Public Library "Reader of the Month" program.

The
Cold Lake Public Library, and Boris, their Book Hog mascot, want to meet and
encourage all the hardworking readers at Holy Cross Elementary School. Each
month, the Cold Lake Public Library will be giving Reader of the Month Awards to two students. Students who show
progression, pizzazz, or participation in their reading at school will be
eligible to win. Teachers will be submitting student names each month, and the
principal will be drawing names during assemblies. Two ten dollar gift certificates
to Lots-A-Books and two Cold Lake Public Library children’s memberships will be
handed out monthly.
