    FUN STUFF TO CHECK OUT


    AUTHORS:

    Jan Brett: enjoy many activities based on Jan Brett's classic picture books. Games, colouring activities, reader's theatre, etc.

    Robert Munsch: short stories, artwork, audio versions of this wonderfully Canadian children's author.

    Dav Pilkey: hang out on Dav's website-o-fun. Games, book excerpts and more.

    Seussville, featuring interactive Dr. Seuss stories, games and printouts.

    Shel Silverstein: poetry and amazing images. What more could you ask for?

    Audrey Wood: Audrey and Don Wood have written and illustrated many fabulous children's stories. Check out their site for fun activities!


    MUSIC:

    Dallas Symphony Kids: the best site I've found (so far) for interactive music fun.

    Stomp: amazing percussive dance troup from New York City. They even have teacher guides.


    ART:

    Flurrious: we certainly have enough snow living in Cold Lake, why not create your own one of a kind snowflake?

    Collage Machine: From the National Gallery of Art inWashington. Use the collage machine to create stunning artwork you can print.


    Children's Book Awards:

    Young Reader's Choice Awards: The Pacific Northwest Library Association's Young Reader's Choice Award is the oldest children's choice award in the U.S. and Canada. Nominations are taken only from children, teachers, parents and librarians in the Pacific Northwest ~ Alaska, Alberta, British Columbia, Idaho, Montana and Washington. Students across North America vote for winners via a short list of titles.

    Rocky Mountain Book Awards: The Rocky Mountain Book Award is a readers’ choice program, which invites students to choose the best book from a shortlist. This Alberta-based program is designed to stimulate the reading interests of students in grades 4-7.


    For Library Staff:

    School Library Journal Online: you won't find better coverage of library related issues than the various blogs and articles on the SLJ website. Their listserves and e-newsletters are worth the few minutes it takes to sign up.

    Never Ending Search: Blog from SLJ. Features author guest posts, booktrailers, etc.

    Kids Lit: A blog about children's literature which covers books for toddlers through teens, plus reading, writing and more.
